Supreme Court vs. Superior Court

In Arizona, the Supreme Court serves as the highest in the state. It has appellate jurisdiction, meaning it hears appeals and reviews the decisions made in the lower courts in the state. Although it mainly deals with appeals, it also handles constitutional issues, important legal matters, and disciplinary matters involving attorneys and other judicial officers.

Conversely, the Pima County Superior Court is the county's main trial court. It hears trials in a variety of cases, including civil, criminal, probate, juvenile, and family law cases. It is referred to as a court of general and original jurisdiction. This means it hears matters from almost any case and will handle them first, hearing evidence and facts and making rulings. Unlike the Supreme Court, Superior Courts only handle trials and matters on the county level.
